Chicago Lighthouse
The Chicago Lighthouse is a world-renowned social service organization serving the blind, visually impaired, disabled and Veteran communities with comprehensive vision care and support services. vision care and support services.
Illinois Department of Human Services
The Illinois Department of Human Services offers programs for adults with visual impairments to enable them to work and participate fully in family and community life. Their goal is to help these people rediscover their independence and freedom. Any Illinois resident who is blind or visually impaired can receive most of these services without cost. Services include vocational rehabilitation programs, community-based instructional programs, a residential center for rehabilitation and education, and a business enterprise program for the blind.
Illinois Council of the Blind
Promoting the general welfare of citizens in Illinois who are blind, the goal of the Illinois Council of the Blind is to improve the quality of life for all blind and visually impaired citizens in Illinois. Their objectives include protecting the rights and privileges of visually impaired Illinois citizens by monitoring legislation, agencies, and organizations that provide services for them. They also provide mutual encouragement and support through social interaction. The Illinois Council of the Blind is an autonomous state organization. It is affiliated with the American Council of the Blind which benefits the blind and visually impaired people of the United States.
Blind Service Association
One of the Chicago area’s most experienced and established volunteer-based organizations helping to improve the lives of people living with visual impairments.
U.S. Department of Veteran’s Affairs
Veterans of the US Armed Forces who are legally blind or suffering from impaired vision can get assistance from the Department of Veteran’s Affairs. They will help provide medical treatment and rehabilitation, as well as connect you with resources to obtain products that will enhance and enable an independent lifestyle. We all want to be independent, and as a veteran of our Armed Forces, you deserve to enjoy the country that you fought so hard for.
Illinois Eye Institute
The Low Vision Rehabilitation Service at the Illinois Eye Institute is dedicated to patients who are visually disabled and cannot be managed through medical or surgical treatment. The goal of the service is to help patients attain the highest level of independent living possible given their visual limitations.

Illinois State Library Talking Book and Braille service
The Talking Book and Braille Service (TBBS) provides audio and braille library service via mail or digital download to any Illinois resident who is unable to read standard print material due to a permanent or temporary visual or physical disability.
